Overview

The Inca Trail through Salkantay is one of the best adventure alternatives that will allow you to visit Machu Picchu in 5 days and 4 nights in a 73 kilometer (45.3 miles) journey. It will allow you to appreciate mountains of lush vegetation, ravines, rivers and hot springs. You can also feel the temperature changes during ascents and descents through the great mountains along the Salkantay Hike tour. You can also enjoy some snow at one of the highest points of the road, 4,650 mts / 15,200 feet above sea level.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • The original passport must be shown at the entrance to Machu Picchu and, if desired, can be sealed at the end of the trek.
  • ISIC International Card if you have booked with this card, which must also be presented at the entrance of Machupicchu.
  • Bottle of water and cleansing tablets.
  • A backpack with a change of clothes for each of the 5-day hike

Tour Plan

CUSCO - MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA.
Pick up from the hotel (5:00 am aprox.) We board our transport to the village of Mollepata approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to arrive at the village Mollepata breakfast (not included) then continue our journey until we reach Challacancha to start our 4 hours walk until arriving at Soraypampa (3,850 masl) where we will have lunch and where will also be our first camp. After lunch it is optional to visit the Humantay Lagoon for 3 hours and then have our dinner.

SORAYPAMPA – CHAULLAY.
Very early in the morning we will leave our camp, after a delicious breakfast in the direction of the snowy Salkantay (4,540 masl) which is the highest point of the whole route for approximately 4 hours, we ascend this first step where we will have a brief rest to power Take in the breathtaking views that will be appreciated from this point. During the trip we will find several mounds of stones called Apachetas. Afterwards we will descend for about 2 hours until Huayracmachay where we will have lunch and then continue descending for 4 hours approx. Until arriving at Chaullay where our second camp is.

Dinner and Overnight.
Walking time 9 hours.

CHALWAY – PLAYA - LUCMABAMBA.
This will be a spectacular day descending through the cloud forest, appreciating a wide variety of vegetation, we will see orchids, and some varieties of birds. We will also meet some local families during the walk. After 6 hours of walking we will arrive at Playa (Lunch place). After a few more minutes we will reach Lucmabamba (2100m), where it will be our third camp.

Walking time 6 hours.
Climate: warm during the day with mosquitoes, the cold of the night.

LUCMABAMBA - LLACTAPATA - AGUAS CALIENTES.
Early in the morning, we will ascend through the Inca Trail network to the archaeological complex of Llactapata (2650m), Here we will still be in the middle of the cloud forest, and we will have an exceptional view of Machu Picchu mountain, Waynapicchu mountain and archaeological site of Machu Picchu. From here we descend to the hydroelectric station (1950m), where we will have lunch and then resume our trekking to Aguas Calientes (2050m), where we will spend in our respective accommodations.

Climate: warm with lots of mosquitoes.
Includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

AGUAS CALIENTES - MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO.
The lost city of the Incas comes at its best early in the morning. After breakfast, we will take the bus to Machu Picchu (2400m), where our professional guide will take us on a tour of the place, explaining the history, politics, ancient agricultural techniques, astronomy and religion that our ancestors left us in This wonderful city of the Incas. After the visit you will have free time to explore the site on your own and take short walks, before returning to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo and Cusco.
The weather in Machu Picchu (Machu Pichu) is warm.
